HBP Coming Out on July 17

Just gacked from the WB announcement:
Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has moved back the release date of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" to Summer 2009. The sixth installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise will now open day-and-date domestically and in the major international markets on July 17, 2009. The announcement was made by Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.


We are in touch with movie theaters within walking distance of the Parc55, the official Azkatraz hotel, and we will definitely be having HBP viewing parties from Friday on.

Edited at 6 PM to add:

The IMAX near the hotel - it's about 3 or 4 blocks away - will not know if they will have the film in IMAX or on regular-sized screens until February or March, but we have reserved an entire theater for the showing at 00:00:01 on July 17, 2009! We are also working to schedule at least one additional showing over the weekend, and perhaps one on Tuesday as well, depending on attendee interest.

Tickets will be available when our registration system goes live in the beginning of next month, and we will have more info about cosplaying, music, and other movie-showing events at Azkatraz shortly.

I got your comment with the link over here, Emma, and yeah, as you probably know, the Metreon is definitely walking distance. I'd even wager a bet that it's the closest one to that hotel, if it's close to Moscone. :) And it has a very nice IMAX screen.

I think we need to consider the possibility of getting group tickets. Hee. Let's scare the movie theater employees to death. LOL

That's pretty awesome, and pretty much clinches the decision to go. :D There is nothing quite like seeing the movie with a bunch of fans, and NOTHING like seeing it in a sold-out theatre with a bunch of fandomers!!

OMG. I'm still pissed at the pushback of the release date, but seeing it w/ other hardcore HP fans brightens my mood a little. :)

Oh, man, does the film suck that badly that they've got to do that much editing and re-shooting? :D But, yes, kick ASS for the Azcatraz coincidence!!

It's not that the film sucks -- it is that WB "needs" a big-money summer pic for next year, and the writer's strike delayed a lot of projects. :S

Ok so I'm not thrilled about it being moved. The release date that is. I was looking forward to seeing Mini Riddle in November.

BUT

Being able to see it with everyone at Azkatraz? Definitely squee worthy. In fact, if I currently had a voice I would be squeeing at the top of my lungs.

That is bullshit!!

I think watching it with a bunch of shippers will be amazing though, and the second I get a job sorted and some savings going I am going to get tickets to Azkatraz. I just moved to NY from Cali so it will be a great time to visit everyone it seems...haha

This is...that BEST news. I saw OotP there by myself while visiting fam, and jesus. GOing back to see HBP with YOU ALL will be wank worthy. hee. Can't WAIT for the obsessed with draco!Harry scenes!
